6 Summer Essentials

6 Summer Essentials

What a summer guys! The weather has been absolutely glorious in Belgium so far and it does make everything seem better, right?

Hopefully we still have plenty of sunny days ahead of us so today let me share a few summer essentials with you. Apart from the obvious straw bag, sunglasses and sunscreen these are the products I've been reaching for on a daily basis (or at least everytime I wore makeup).

A staple in my makeup bag. If you are like me and hate the feeling of greasy, sticky SPF under your makeup this one is made for you. I love everything about it (apart from the price tag maybe but I think it's actually worth it). It has a beautiful lightweight texture that won't disturb your makeup. It doesn't give you that dreaded white/grey cast and most importantly it doesn't smell like SPF! I have to be extra careful with the SPFs I use because I can smell them on my face ALL DAY LONG and it drives me nuts! Am I the only one? Anyway, it's a beautiful light base for makeup. Foundations go on very smoothly on top of it without peeling off. I've worn this under mineral powder or liquid foundations and it doesn't interfere with any of them. It also comes in a SPF 50 version if you are looking for a higher protection. Now, keep in mind that this is more of a city protection, a base you would wear under makeup. I would recommend to go for a heavier duty protection if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors. Last but not least I love the white, minimalistic packaging. It's a detail for some but I'm a very visual person and these things appeal to me! It's very light and doesn't take much space in my makeup bag.

An oldie but a goodie that comes out every summer! One or two drops (depending on your hair length) will transform its texture instantly. I always apply it mid-length on wet hair before blow drying. It can also be applied on dry hair throughout the day as needed. A little bit goes a very long way so be careful if you have thin hair like me, it can make your locks look greasy if you are heavy handed. Another big plus, it smells amazing! It reminds me a lot of Tom Ford Black Orchid, major throwback here! I know there are some cheaper alternatives on the market but nothing beats this one to make your hair silky smooth.

I'm not necessarily a liquid-highlighter-kinda-girl but these are so good! They come in two shades. I have the lighter one, 01 'Sparkling Love', which is a perfect champagne. I find a lot of champagne highlighters too warm on my skin tone but this is very neutral and looks lovely on light skins. It's very dewy and almost makes your skin look sweaty, in the most beautiful way of course! This stuff is EXTREMELY pigmented so be aware, you only need a tiny amount! I like to pat it on all the usual areas (cheekbones, nose and cupid's bow) then blend it with my trusty beauty blender that makes everything look more natural. You can't detect any sparkle at all, it just gives your skin a soft iridescent glow. I love a good multitasking product and this one is no exception, sometimes I mix it with my body moisturiser for extra glow on my collar bones, arms and legs. A must have for the sunny days!

I haven't bought a NARS blush in ages but fell in love with this one as soon as I swatched it in Sephora. It's a beautiful light peachy-pink blush/highlighter hybrid. A bit too sheer on its own but looks gorgeous over any peachy/coral blush. It just adds a bit of dimension and makes you look 'fresh' without looking like a disco ball. This shade was a Spring release if I'm not mistaken but if you can still find it please have a swatch! It's so so beautiful!

I have two holy grail foundations. CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua and this Mineral Powder from Laura Mercier.
It's been so hot lately that I've skipped foundation and went straight to concealer, a bit of bronzer and blush. That's it. But when I do want a bit of coverage I always reach for this. It comes back every summer in my makeup bag, for good reasons. I've tried other mineral powders (L'Oréal, Chanel and Bare Minerals) but this is hands down the best. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised how well it evens out your complexion without looking powdery at all. It literally melts on your skin and looks very natural. Your skin but better. I've used it since my early blogging days (I started in 2011) so yes, I guess we can say it has reached the holy grail status!

Unfortunately hot summer nights also mean mosquito bites. As you know I like to go the natural way as much as I can and I'm a big fan of essential oils. It's the most effective and natural way I found to calm down a mosquito bite. Just massage a drop on the area and let nature do its thing! It soothes the inflammation quickly and gets rid of the itchiness. I always carry a bottle with me in my little 'emergency' kit. I don't use it on Amélie, it's not recommend for small children so please be careful as essential oils are powerful even though they are 'natural'.

That's it for my little round up! Have you tried any of these products? Let me know if you have any summer essentials, I'd love to know!
