Best Beauty Discoveries of 2018
2018 is coming to an end so it’s time to do a little round up of the products that stood up to me this year. These are not necessarily new on the market (I like to let trends die before giving in) but all of them are products I’ve personally discovered this year.
There is not a lot, as you know I’m a very loyal consumer. I tend to stick to what works for me so I won’t go into every single category (foundation, lipstick, blush etc…) for the sake of it. As you know it’s all about honesty around here! :-)
Let’s start with haircare. Last spring my scalp started to itch and my hair was falling off a bit more than usual. After a blood test that was completely normal and didn’t show any deficiency I decided to give my hair a little boost and got the Weleda Revitalising Hair Tonic. This lotion is made with rosemary essential oil and extracts of stonecrop to strengthen the hair and maintain a healthy scalp. I’ve used rosemary on my scalp a few years ago to stimulate hair growth and had great results so I knew where I was going with this one. I started to massage my scalp every night with it. After only two weeks I started to notice results. My hair stopped falling down (might just have been the season though) but it really soothed my itchy scalp. My hair feels thicker since I started using it and is also less oily. It feels very invigorating due to the essential oils and doesn’t leave any greasy residue so you don’t need to wash if off the next day. I’m also really pleased that the product comes in a glass bottle instead of plastic. To make the most of it though I like to decant it in a spray bottle, that way it’s easier to apply evenly and you end up wasting less product. The scent is very herbal and fresh, I would highly recommend it if your scalp is a bit temperamental, your hair is thinning or you just need a boost when the seasons change!
Caudalie Glycolic Peel Mask: To be completely honest with you I’m not into masks. At all. I’ve tried some in the past but I’ve never been convinced by any of them. As you know I’m a big fan of Caudalie so I decided to try it. My expectations were low but I was pleasantly surprised! It’s my second tube, which never happens with a mask. I’m hooked! It gently exfoliates your skin and activates the production of new cells. I’ve been doing it religiously twice a week and I can honestly say that my skin feels smoother (less texture) and more radiant. This, combined with my serums, has done wonders! It’s less harsh than a physical scrub but still gets rid of impurities and reveal new glowing skin underneath. Definitely one to try if you want radiant skin!
Phytopanama Daily Scalp Balancing Shampoo: I don’t use this on an everyday basis (I’ve switched my haircare to cleaner alternatives four years ago) but whenever my hair feels oilier than usual I whip this baby out! It leaves my hair extremely soft, lightweight and bouncy. I’ve used Phyto shampoos in the past and I must say I’ve never been disappointed by any of them. I highly recommend it if your scalp is prone to oiliness and you want to balance it out.
CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof: I know this is a bit extra and that there are cheaper eyeliners on the market but this one ticks all the boxes for me. First of all I love the shade. Mine is ‘Mat Taupe’ , a lovely brown that defines my eyes and makes an impact without looking too harsh against my blue eyes/fair skin. Most importantly it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. Many eyeliners make my eyes watery and irritated but this formula is very gentle. It stays put for a decent amount of time in the waterline and is equally great to line the lash line. You can smudge it with a pencil brush easily for a smokey effect. It doesn’t need to be sharpened, which is another bonus. By far the pencil I’ve used the most this year. I will repurchase it for sure as soon as it runs out!
Bourjois Satin Edition 24H Eyeshadow: A gem! These little eyeshadows have been out for quite a while but I never see anyone talking about them. I have the shade ‘Abracada’Brown’, a beautiful chestnut brown with slight bronzy undertones. It’s gorgeous! It gives the coverage of a cream with a powdery finish. Once it’s on it doesn’t budge. It’s so easy to apply with the doe foot applicator and blends effortlessly with your fingers. What I love the most is the finish. It looks like velvet on my eyes. It reflects the light beautifully without looking shimmery. Truly magical!
Mars Soft Matte Complete Concealer: Don’t get fooled by its name. For the longest time I thought ‘matte’ equals ‘dry’. I was wrong! The consistency is just perfect and doesn’t emphasise the little lines I have around my eyes. I’m 38 now and I have to be careful with the products I use. It’s matte but not in a bad way. It looks like skin, I don’t have to powder it so it actually looks more flattering than concealers that stay tacky after application. It blends very easily with the warmth of your fingers or a small brush. It’s equally great to cover the odd spot or redness. A beautiful discovery!
L’Oréal Unlimited Mascara: If you’ve been following me for a long time you know that my favorite mascara is the Maybelline Lash Sensational. I’ve been going on and on about it for years! Well this year I’ve decided to try something new. I came across the Unlimited mascara in my drugstore and decided to give it a go as the wand looked promising. It’s so good! If you like defined lashes you will love it. It gives a very similar effect to the Lash Sensational. It lengthens, volumizes and separates the lashes beautifully. It doesn’t smudge on me and is easy to remove at night with micellar water. The packaging is a bit clunky and the bendable wand is a bit gimmicky in my opinion but other than that it’s an awesome mascara!
What is the best beauty discovery you made this year? Let me know!
Happy New Year guys, thanks for reading and sticking by me! :-)
