Wardrobe Essential : The Camel Coat
I really want to start a little series about my wardrobe essentials, what do you think?
This won’t turn into a ‘Closet Must-Haves’ I promise. I’ve never really been a fan of these myself. We are all different, have contrasting styles, shapes and most importantly jobs so what’s necessary for you might not be for me (and vice versa). This will be more of a round up of the things I can’t get enough of and that are on heavy rotation in my wardrobe.
I do not have a capsule wardrobe yet but I’m working on it. I’m not sure about the amount of clothes I will allow myself but the idea of a wardrobe full of timeless pieces that work beautifully together is very appealing to me at this stage of my life.
Today I will be talking about one of my favorite winter items in my wardrobe, the camel coat.
Trends do come and go but I think we all agree that camel coats are here to stay, to me they are the epitome of smart casual!
As you know my style is very classic, I love clean lines and timeless pieces I can wear over and over again so I finally added a camel coat to my wardrobe last September. This is the coat I’ve been reaching for the most so far this autumn/winter.
My favorite way to wear it is with an all black outfit. I love the contrast of the black against the warm caramel color, I think it screams elegance and is a nice change from head-to-toe black.
Mine is from Zara, groundbreaking I know… I already own this coat in black and a deep red shade so it was a no brainer when I spotted it in camel. I love this cut a lot and always feel very smart whenever I wear it. I know the trend is about boyfriend shapes this year but I feel my best in a fitted, tailored cut. To me it’s more versatile and timeless.
Although they go really well with black there are so many ways you can style camel coats. With an all white outfit, blue jeans, striped tops, animal prints… the possibilities are endless. You can wear them from autumn till spring. Swap your roll neck jumpers for a slogan tee or a denim shirt once the temperatures get a bit warmer and get a few more occasions to wear them! You can dress them up or down (I know, I’m cringing too when I hear that expression but it really is the case!). Wear them over your party dresses with heels and the next day with a pair of boyfriend jeans and a cool pair of Stan Smiths. They really go above any outfit, for any occasion.
Here are a few ways I’ve been loving to wear mine so far…
Camel is definitely the coolest color this season and I don’t think it will go out of style anytime soon. It might seem a bit daunting but I can guarantee that once you’ve got one on you will feel stylish now… and for years to come!
