My 3 Winter Skin Saviours
Winter temperatures can be really devastating for our skin if we don’t look after it properly. Usually around this time of the year it tends to become red, chapped and irritated.
There are so many products on the market and it can be a bit overwhelming to choose the right ones. I’ve tested a fair amount in the past so here are my top 3 recommendations to keep your skin, lips and hands happy during the colder months!
WELEDA SKIN FOOD: This is a heavy duty, all-purpose and completely natural moisturiser I’ve discovered last year when I moved back to Belgium. Now this isn’t something you put all over your face (me anyway). Some people do but I find it too intense. It’s the kind of product I massage my cuticles with, rub around my nose when I have a cold (and look like a clown), apply on my dry knuckles and heels… that kind of use!
It’s no longer a secret that I love Weleda as a brand. I’ve yet to be disappointed by any of their products. It has a very invigorating herbal scent, which I find really pleasant. The ingredients are nice and clean. It’s cheap (around 8€) but performs so well, a little miracle in my winter arsenal!
NUXE RÊVE DE MIEL ULTRA-NOURISHING LIP BALM: After all these years this is still the best lip balm I’ve tried. I do try other brands because I have a silly passion for lip products but this is the one I re-buy every single winter without fail. I’ve started using it probably 7 years ago! There is nothing compared to its thick, waxy texture. It’s a bit gritty and doesn’t really have a slip to it but I don’t mind at all because it works. It acts like a barrier on the lips and leave them conditioned and repaired like no other. It has a matte finish so it’s very user friendly for men. It’s always on my bedside table, a cult product for good reasons!
L’OCCITANE INTENSIVE HAND BALM: Again, a heavy duty product. It contains 25% of shea butter, which is ideal to soften the skin. This is definitely a winter hand cream, it’s quite heavy and will leave a nice residue on your skin. I mostly use it at night or before going for a walk when it’s really cold outside. I also love to use it on my feet at night. When I wake up the next morning I can still feel it on my skin. They are always baby soft whenever I use it. There are different ‘strengths’ of shea butter in the range but they are all incredible to be honest, you can’t go wrong with any of them. The price is a bit hefty (I think around 23€) but the tube is quite large and will get you through winter. A little bit goes a very long way!
I hope you find this helpful if you are struggling with dry skin at the moment. If I hadn’t found these my skin would look like a dry flaky mess from November till March let me tell you… :-)
